Costa Rica is a nature enthusiast's paradise of misty cloud forests, coastal jungles, beautiful beaches and volcanic peaks.

The country is one of the smallest and most peaceful countries in Central America. With almost 30% of its land area protected as either national park or forest reserve, Costa Rica is deservedly well known for its enlightened approach to conservation and boasts a whole host of natural attractions including forests, rivers, mountains, volcanoes, and prolific wildlife (almost 5% of the world’s species). With both a Caribbean and Pacific coastline, there is no shortage of beaches either.

A sophisticated and well-developed tourist infrastructure satisfies the needs of visitors from North America and Europe. Costa Rica is the ideal destination for honeymooners, families, wildlife enthusiasts and those looking for a bit of adventure.

Costa Rica does not have an army, has not experienced the same political turbulent history of many of its neighbours and is deemed to be the safest place in the area. Costa Ricans are fiercely proud of their beautiful country and are extremely friendly and helpful to visitors.

The nation's climate is classically divided into two major seasons: rainy and dry. The dry season runs from January through May and the rainy season from May to November and December.

Although in the mountains above 2000 meters you get much cooler temperatures, the average annual temperature for most of the country lies between 21.7°C (71°F) and 27°C (81°F). The coolest months are from November through January, and the warmest from March through May.
